Description

The continued evolution of the Benz cartridge line and the culmination of years of research and manufacturing refinements, the S Class incorporates new materials, advancements in moving coil and suspension design, and upgraded styli on the Benz Swiss hand-made moving coils.

The Gullwing cartridges repreent Benz Micro's homage to the Glider symbol. SLR, "S" stands for for the Gyger S micro-ridge stylus, "L" for Luft or air in German, and "R" for Ruby. At first glance, the SLR resembles the famous Glider cartridge, but the SLR Gullwing is derived from the highly regarded Benz Ruby and the LP S-Class. An open-air design like the Glider, the SLR is the only Benz cartridge other then the LP S-Class with a frame machined from solid brass. The generator uses the square ruby plate and oversized neodymium magnet similar to the Benz Ruby. Finally, the Benz Dynascan, a Gyger S stylus side-bonded to a solid boron cantilever, completes this outstanding cartridge. Open, sweet, detailed and dynamic, the Benz SLR Gullwing is more than a “Super Glider”. Think of it as the "convertible sports coupe" version of the venerable LP S-Class.

The 2 'neodymium' magnets and freedom from yokes enable the coils to be placed directly within the magnetic field. Not just close, but literally right inside. The detail is never masked by rising dynamics and sharp subtleties.

Anti resonance cartridge body

The solid non-resonant body with 'deeply cut-away sides' utilises both shape and material to create a totally inert environment for the electromagnetic elements. These elements are more effectively insulated from tonearm, turntable and tracing noises. further reducing ffi1Y tonal colourations of the music and lessening the intrusion of distracting mechanical noises.

Twin 'silver' coils on the cantilever fulcrum

Minimises dynamic mass and 'mechanical impedance'. enabling instant, accurate reaction to every groove detail, including the ability to handle massive transients without overshoot or break-up.

Push pull damping

A special compound has been meticulously designed and fabricated to provide total stylus/coil alignment and control. Its non-sensitivity to temperature change keeps the damping coefficient stable and improves tracing accuracy.

Special alloy core for assembly

Increases sensitivity by 23dB, improves signal to noise ratio eliminating a usual source of distortion.

Low mass tip

Ogura PA (3 x 30pm) tip shares many of the advantages of the flagship Me cartridge "The Orpheus". Its function is to reproduce the character of the original recorded sound- not add or subtract its own deficiencies.

Benz Glider SL: 

The S-Class models of the Wood Body SL (low-output), SM (medium) and SH (high), the Glider SL, SM, SH, and the ACE SL, SM, SH all incorporate the Benz Dynascan system with a Gyger S stylus coupled to improved generators using new coil windings and refined pole pieces/damper designs. Albert Lukaschek began researching increased performance and uniformity of his cross-coil designs while developing the Benz Ebony H, L and TR models. Experimenting with the length of the solid Boron cantilever revealed how the elasticity of this very stiff material affected compliance and trackability. Development of a grooved rear pole piece for countersinking the o-ring damper, first introduced on the Benz Ruby square plate cartridges, was then adapted to the cross-coil designs, given their lower contact area and damping characteristics. The lower mass coils and matched cantilevers of the new S-Class retain their real world output levels and with their improved styli, offer heightened performance. These cartridges yield one of the best performance/value ratios in cartridge market, regardless of output level.
